Yep, that's another handy use Daniel. I've lost count of the number of times I've overshot and then had to return to various rural parking spots.

These are some really good ideas for using Street View, especially for finding out about where to park and whether a bus stop has a shelter. I find Street View useful to get an idea of what the road looks like when the parking space is approaching, so that I can slow down in time to pull in. Otherwise its far too easy to shoot past the parking space and have to turn round and drive back again.

Thanks Martin. Same to Sue and yourself -- hope you have a great year. I can't remember if I mentioned it before, but I'm planning to do the GR20 this year. Any hint, tips, links to resources you'd recommend etc., would be really useful.

I've not had much time recently to do much more on the NZ guide, though I certainly haven't ditched the idea. Blog posts are a bit sparse lately too, as you may have noticed -- just need to get into the blogging habit I think!

I wonder how the NZ Trekking guide project is getting on?
Anyway, the main thing is enjoying putting up your postings, regardless of who may, or may not, read them...

Excellent photos, Paul
Featuring perhaps a female robin, and almost certainly Devils-bit Scabious (Succisa pratensis), probably also to be found in your local meadow - maybe still in flower!

Thanks for the advice and the link James. Indeed, the options available with the catalog export and import functions are what I needed to look into.

Given the "working catalog can't be on a network drive" limitation, I'm simply plugging my external drive (which contains the master catalog and image files) into whichever machine I want to use the Lightroom client on. If I want to work on my netbook, away from home (and thus without access to the external drive), then, depending on exactly what type of work I want to do, I can export the catalog (or part of the catalog), along with previews, or even image files (or "negative" files as Lightroom calls them) if I want to make use of the Develop module in addition to updating metadata. An import back into the master catalog on the hard drive is then all that's needed to incorporate any work done away from home.

I'll be posting about this shortly, in a little more detail. Still lots more to learn, but it's making more and more sense as time goes on!

Great pics Martin. Looks as though a good half of your route was the same as what Martin and I did. (We started and finished in Pralognan, completing an anti-clockwise circuit.) I'll get that gallery up soon!

This brings back memories of a 2007 trip, shortly before the Postcard from Timperley was started. I still have to write a report, but a slideshow was loaded here:
http://www.photobox.co.uk/slideshow?album_id=27562666
You'll probably need to cut and paste the link. Best to view in 'Full Screen', and click on 'Show Info' if you want the captions.
Cheers

Good question. It was late February, so well into the southern hemisphere summer really. I've edited the post to include a date now. Is this a track you're thinking of doing?
